SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Registered Nurse Educator II supports the quality of care provided to patients by Department of Nursing staff through optimal orientation programs, ongoing evaluation of competence, and support of lifelong learning. The RN Nurse Educator II promotes relevant professional development opportunities and mentorship for members of the department of nursing at all levels to assist with the achievement of personal and professional goals. The RN Educator II will identify outcomes of educational interventions based on input from learners and stakeholders, evidence, regulations and organizational goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES - The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. - Plans, implements, coordinates, and facilitates educational interventions, in collaboration with the learner and stakeholders, using evidence-based modalities that address the learning needs and support achievement of expected outcomes.
- Evaluates value of educational interventions and programs based on achievement of outcomes, cost and return on investment.
- Involves learners and stakeholders in evaluation process. Develops, implements, and evaluates curriculum for orientation programs, continuing education and other educational programs for assigned clinical unit and revise as necessary.
- Serves as a consultant in a formal or informal manner to advise on the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational interventions.
- Protects the dignity and confidentiality of all learners and performs role in a non-discriminatory and ethical manner.
- Recommends instructors/speakers for continuing educational programs.
- Evaluates performance of instructors/speakers and provides feedback. Supervises new employee orientation progress and assesses with the nurse manager the staff level of achievement of the educational and practice goals.
- Coordinates centralized educational programming for nursing. Responsible for understanding of and application of educational design criteria as outlined by ANCC for all continuing educational programs offered.
- Serves as a change agent to advance the practice of nursing by scanning the environment for issues and trends that warrant change, developing education in support of the change, and monitoring effectiveness of education throughout the change process.
- Precepts and mentors undergraduate and graduate students and colleagues as appropriate.
- Collaborates with other health-care institutions and community agencies within area of expertise, when appropriate.
- Supports evidence-based practice projects related to area of practice by mentoring Graduate and Staff Nurses.
- Seeks opportunities to improve competence in the NPD specialty through engagement in educational activities.
- Evaluates personal performance and performance of peers on an ongoing basis while also giving and seeking feedback.
- Recommends revisions to standards of nursing care and policies/procedures within area(s) of expertise, based on available evidence. Recommends additional equipment and/or supplies and/or technology that may assist in improving patient care based on new scientific development.
- Participates in new employee interviews and makes hiring recommendations to the nurse manager. Assists in the development and instruction of required courses (i.e. BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP), as identified by regulatory bodies, applicable to assigned clinical units. Participates on unit-based and organizational committees, serving as a leader and representative of the NPD department, as assigned by Director.
- Participates in or conducts Research, Quality Improvement, and EBP initiatives related to area of practice. When appropriate, assists the Nurse Manager in achieving compliance with regulatory bodies through appropriate documentation of orientation and ongoing competence.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Master’s degree in related field
- Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
- AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
- At least five (5) years' experience as registered nurse
- Previous teaching experience AHA Instructor Certification Clinical Certification Certification in Nursing Professional Development
- NPD-BC preferred
